Signs of Having a Mac Keylogger

Mac keylogger is a security program for your Mac that records activities performed on your computer. The stealthy keylogger stays hidden in the background and captures keystrokes, desktop screenshots, web history and sometimes even application passwords.

The users usually install the program to your Mac to monitor the activities on your computer. Although many Mac keyloggers are said to be undetectable, there are still some clues that can help you to determine if a keylogger is installed in your Mac.

For software keyloggers, the first place you should notice is the Dock. Many legitimate and commercial Mac keyloggers have Dock icons that will tell that the computer is being monitored. Here are some other signs that can help you to determine if your computer has a Keylogger for Mac:

  • Network activity even if you are not accessing the network.

This happens when the Mac keylogger attempts to send the captured data through the Internet.

  • Unknown or mysterious running processes.

Some keyloggers do not leave icons on your Dock but sometimes the process of the Mac keylogger may appear in the Activity Monitor. If you notice an unknown process in your Activity Monitor, that may be a keylogger.

  • Online accounts change.

If you are sure that you are the only one who knows your log-in details on various online accounts and you notice some changes, like a change of settings, passwords, or even transactions (banks, credit cards), then it is another clue that someone else manages to steal your log-in details through keyloggers.

Additional: Those above are just some basic clues in finding keylogger for Mac. Indeed, the Mac keylogger can help you a lot in parental control, network management or employee monitoring, however, there are also keyloggers that can effectively hide themselves, avoid detection or even steal your data. You should be alert in case of something wrong happening

How To Monitor Your Mac Activity

Installing a Keylogger Mac on a computer can give you a full picture of all of the activity that is happening on that computer at any time of the day or night. Knowing how to monitor your Mac is not difficult with the right software. You need to first determine what sort of things you will be looking for or keeping track of. Once you know what you want to find out, then you can look for an appropriate program.

Finding out how to keylog a computer is simple. Once you have found a program that suits your needs, you will simply download that program and install it on the computer. The next thing that you will do is password it so that only you can access it.

Once you have installed the program, you should be able to access the logs that the program records in hidden files on your computer. This can be done either remotely or from that same computer. This will give you a full picture of all internet activity and every keystroke that has been inputted into your computer.

After you have used your program a few times and reviewed the logs, you will know how to keylog a computer. The main thing to remember about a keylogging program is that it must be undetectable and invisible. It should operate in the background and not be visible to any user of the computer. Once you have passworded the program, only you will have access to the information that it provides.

Whether it is your spouse or your children, you will know everything that has been done on the computer whether or not you were there at the time. Forget someone minimizing the screen when you walk into the room. You simply pull up the logs and review them; all of the information is there in black and white.

Is it safe to install a keylogger by clicking a link?

A lot of computer users want to know whether a keylogger can be installed by clicking a link or not. The answer is actually yes if you are able to tolerate great risk of getting a virus. However, we do not suggest purchasing and installing this kind of keyloggers on your computer because they can never be trusted.
1.   Keyloggers which don’t require physical access to the user’s computer are always downloaded unwittingly as spyware and executed as part of a rootkit or remote administration (RAT) Trojan horse.
2.   You cannot check if the keylogger installation link is free from virus. But before install a keylogger via physical access, you can scan the installer by Mac anti-virus software to make sure it is safe and clean for your Mac.
3.   It is hard to configure personal settings as your needs after you install the keylogger by clicking a link. Most of them have no keylogger user interface and there's simply no telling about whether the keylogger works fine.
4.   How to view the logs is also a problem. Since the keylogger has no interface, it is not easy for you to view keylogger logs. You may think that you can receive logs by emails. But how do you set your emails up after installation?
5.   Uninstallation becomes impossible if you are not tech savvy enough. Usually you have no idea about the location of the Mac keyloggers, and the uninstaller of the keylogger is unavailable neither.
For your computers’ safety sake, please keep away from keyloggers which supports so called link-clicking installation.

How to Avoid Malware from Popups and Emails

As today menacing threats to our computers are always getting more and more sophisticated often disguising their malware downloads using deceiving look alike pop-ups of legitimate companies. And you bet sometimes it is often very difficult to tell which ones are truly legit or not.

The safest thing you can do if you are paranoid about this is to not trust any of those popup updates at all. And have your software set to not automatically do update, but updating them manually yourself by checking the software manufacture Websites for updates and downloading it from them. While this is a lot more work on your end, it definitely cuts down the chances of being deceived with malware.

However, if the manual work doesn't seem like that is your cup of tea, just be very, very careful and if you have any suspicions- just don't click it at all! One particular bit of advice I must point out is to never click on any pop-ups you do not trust or are uncertain about. Don't click the "X" to try to close the popup. There are malware tricks that use that to install their garbage as well as clicking anywhere else on the popup.

Never ever, ever follow a link from an email you've received to update a product. If there is an update available, you should be able to find it by using the programs internal update feature. If you can't find it, try the program's web site. You'd be surprised how many fake update notifications people receive through email. If you're looking at new products and you trust the site (always check the URL address), that's okay. If you're uncertain, Delete the email. If there truly is a problem, you'll find out soon enough. In most cases, they're just trying to sell you something new.
