You could not believe that you may get a violation of privacy if you find there is a small light of your MacBook webcam when the next time you sit in front of your laptop. You will have no way to know if you are being spied or not without that small light from the webcam. The Washington Post reported a news according to the Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf was hacked by camera this year, and the FBI acknowledged that recently there was a good article mentioned about suspicious light from laptop camera, the researchers - Johns Hopkins- is the first one who makes the people think about the security online by noticing laptop camera.
According to the Washington Post, "The study focused on the MacBook and iMac models previously published in 2008" but the new model may be more sensitive. Professor Stephen Checkoway and his students Matthew Brocker published an article "I see you: Disabling the MacBook Webcam Indicator LED", that talks about how they make efforts to reprogram the LED indicator and the camera on a MacBook and make the two parts works independently. At the last, they get a result that the camera of MacBook can be occupied and turned off the warning light without a click of one button on the laptop. These make people can spy on a Mac with webcam and at the same time turn the lights off.
Actually, the webcam is not the only tool people can utilize to spy on a Mac, keylogger for Mac today is a common program used to spy on Mac quietly. A Mac keylogger goes to invisible after installed onto a Mac and records all typed information on the Mac.
